Konstantinos “Kosta” Minakis, age 80, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, in Downers Grove, Illinois, after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born on April 8, 1945, on the beautiful island of Chios, Greece, Kosta was a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend whose generosity, passion, and gifted hands touched everyone who knew him.
Guided by a deep Christian faith, Kosta lived with a spirit of humility and service. He embodied the words of Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” a principle reflected in the kindness he shared so freely throughout his life and especially during his final days.
Kosta will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Marta Minakis, with whom he shared many years of happiness. He leaves behind his beloved sons Alex, Niko, and Dino, and their mother, Maria, who together formed the foundation of his proudest role—father. His sister Koralia and brother Dimitri Minakis will deeply miss the lifelong bond they shared.
Kosta’s hands were never still. Whether fixing a broken chair, repairing a child’s toy, or taking on a new project, he approached every task with joy and purpose. His skill and craftsmanship were matched only by his desire to help others. Through every act of service, Kosta found meaning—and he gave that meaning back to the world tenfold.
As we say goodbye, we honor a life lived with intention, faith, and love. Kosta was a beacon of strength, generosity, and devotion, and his memory will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know him. May he rest in peace in the loving embrace of the God he served so faithfully.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 12, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 7560 S. Archer Road, Justice, Illinois, with a 12:30 p.m. service to follow.
Interment will take place at Bethania Cemetery, Justice, Illinois.
