The construction on 123rd Street/McCarthy Road is still ongoing and could last most of December.

Village officials were hoping that the work for water main allocations would be done by the end of November.

Those plans changed.

The final word will come from the Illinois Department of Transportation but the preliminary guess is that it will take a few more weeks.

“When is it going to be open? Promises, promises, promises, right?”  said Public Works and Street Commissioner Rebecca Petan at the Dec. 8 village council meeting.

She said that paving was scheduled to take place on Dec. 9 and Dec. 10.

“The road will not open until the guard rail and the striping are done the week of the 15th,” she said, “The road should be open for the holidays and I want to put ‘should’ in white bright lights.”

Visible progress is being seen on the project, which started in late June.

“It was very exciting Saturday to see them putting up the curbs,” Mayor Nicole Milovich Walters said.

Levy announced

The council approved a 4.95% tax levy ordinance.

Finance Commissioner G. Darryl Reed said the village will receive roughly $1.8 million and the library $612,000.

He added that the Palos Park portion is less than 10 percent of residents’ entire tax bill.

“It’s estimated to impact a taxpayer by approximately $25 for each $100,000 in market value,” Reed said.
