An ordinance was approved last week to continue using a burglar alarm system to make the Village of Worth safer.

An agreement with Quality Alarm Systems was approved during the Worth Village Board meeting on Dec. 2 for the alarm lease system and installation. An agreement was originally reached 10 years ago but after a series of continuances, it was necessary to update the information for clarification.

The agreement provides for two, two-year automatic renewal periods. The ordinance is effective immediately.

Honor Doreen Holford

Mayor Mary Werner read a proclamation honoring Doreen Holford, a longtime and revered employee of Neat Repeats, who recently retired after serving the organization for over 25 years.

Holford, a Worth resident, played a major role in getting the Neat Repeats shops off the ground. The resale shops are run by the Crisis Center for the South Suburbia to assist women and families who have been victims of domestic abuse.

The items sold at the Neat Repeats resale shops in Worth and Orland Park provide funding for these victims. An open house was held Friday at the local Neat Repeats in which visitors got to thank Holford personally for all her work and mentoring she provided over the years.

Werner thanked Holford for her commitment and said she would be missed.
