Snowflakes fell steadily across the Southwest Suburbs on Saturday, blanketing streets and lawns in white while snowplows worked to keep travel safe.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Friday, forecasting 6 to 10 inches of snow, with some areas possibly seeing even more. The alert covered McHenry, Lake, DeKalb, Kane, DuPage, Kendall, Grundy, Kankakee, Cook and Will counties from 3 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday.

Children were among the biggest fans of the snowfall, laughing, sledding, and making snow angels in yards and local parks. Excited shouts filled the air as kids enjoyed the heavy, fluffy powder.
Meanwhile, residents bundled up, cleared sidewalks, and crews in bright orange jackets and flashing lights plowed streets to prevent hazardous conditions.
“This is classic Chicago winter,” said Roger Schweikert of Palos Park. “It’s beautiful, but you’ve got to respect it.”
From sledding hills to freshly shoveled sidewalks, the South Side embraced the snowy spectacle, reminding everyone that winter has officially arrived.
