An 18-year-old youth was fatally wounded during a robbery attempt Saturday night at the Evergreen Park Walmart little more than a month after two people were shot in the same parking lot.
Police said the teen, later identified as Justin Bell, of southeast suburban Lynwood, was part of a robbery crew that tried to rob a man in the store parking lot in the 2500 block of West 95th Street.
Police said Bell was shot during a struggle between the would-be victim and two men who got out of a silver Audi and approached the victim about 7:50 p.m.
The men were armed with handguns and attempted to take the victim’s belongings. The victim resisted and during the struggle one of the gunmen fired several times and shot Bell.
The men fled with a third man and dropped Bell off at Little Company of Mary Hospital where he later died of his wounds.
Police said the Audi had temporary registration and has front-end damage. The two other suspects are still at-large, according to police.
The victim was not injured.
Police asked anyone with information to call investigators at 708-422-2144.
On Oct. 16, Yoseph K. Barnes, 20, was charged with attempted murder in an incident Oct. 15 at the same Walmart store.
Barnes was captured shortly after the shooting in a nearby home’s recycling bin after he shot a 23-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman and led police on a chase through the store.
