Palos Community Consolidated School District 118 has not explained why Palos West School second-grade teacher Jennifer Tiernan is no longer employed following an incident involving a student earlier this month.

The district has not released details, and public documents offer no clear timeline for when her separation was finalized. She was due to retire at the end of the school year.

Tiernan’s departure came around the time of the Nov. 11 Board of Education meeting, but the public agenda did not identify her or list any personnel action involving certified staff. The only items under that section were family leave approvals for two employees.

District Superintendent Dr. Anthony Scarsella declined to address the matter when asked for clarification.

“Thank you for reaching out. As I’m sure you are aware, I cannot comment on individual employees or individual students,” he wrote in an email, directing questions to the Nov. 11 board meeting agenda.

The Nov. 11 agenda shows the board met in closed session to discuss employee discipline or dismissal and individual student matters, but Tiernan’s name does not appear in the public portion of the meeting, and the board recorded no open-session vote regarding her employment. Under Illinois law, school boards may discuss personnel issues in private, but any final action on dismissal must occur in public. No such action appears in the record.

Palos West Principal Jennifer Peloquin did not respond to an email seeking comment. Board President Pam Paris said the superintendent would respond for the school.

Public documents from the past month show routine meetings and several closed-session discussions, but none of the agendas identify Tiernan or include any public vote on her employment.

The school board held another closed session on Nov. 18 under the same employee- and student-related provisions. No vote or public action followed.

On Nov. 20, Principal Peloquin and Rob Szklanecki, director of teaching and learning, emailed a letter to parents of children in Tiernan’s class. The letter said Tiernan had been away from school for two weeks and would not return for the remainder of the school year.

Substitute teachers will oversee the class until the district hires a permanent teacher, the letter said. The school hopes to have a new teacher in place by winter recess.

The letter said the district was taking steps to support students. A social worker will be available for students in “need of individual support.”

Szklanecki will work with substitute teachers “to ensure continuity of instruction during this time,” the letter said.

The district assigned math instruction to April VanDyke, the school’s math coach, and assigned Alison Moreau to support ELA instruction.

District officials also said they would reschedule November parent-teacher conferences for the second semester.

District officials have not released information about the nature of the incident involving the student, whether an investigation occurred, or what findings the board reviewed. No additional public documents clarify the reason for Tiernan’s departure.

  1. It’s interesting that you have not noted anything was retracted. What kind of news source is this? Also you should be very careful who you are getting your information from. There is more than one party who can screenshot information shared.

  2. I see the article was corrected but my comment wasn’t posted nor was it indicated a correction was made. Where’s the evidence of the incident? You claim in your headline there’s an incident but this article basically says she doesn’t work there anymore and you don’t know why. There could be a miriad of reasons someone leaves a job but you just need an inflammatory headline. This isn’t reporting, this is click bait nonsense that could ruin a person’s life. Get some actual evidence before you go online making comments like this!

    1. I hate it when people fill in the blanks where they don’t have anything to show something…. they need to finish there thoughts so they guess to be able to finish a story…that’s just wrong ….that’s where someone can get a life long bad reputation when they just guess and put out information that they don’t know if it’s factor fill in information just so they can put out a story before anyone else gets their story out….it seems like getting the story out first is more important than getting the information right is more important….the truth may come out in a day week or maybe never but there needs to be some kind of accountability for putting out incorrect information….they can put out a story that ruin’s someones reputation and they don’t get punishment when they put out incorrect information…

    2. I was on Reddit the other day, and a female teacher was talking about how she is set to retire at the end of this year, but was offered a new job elsewhere, and wants to quit being a teacher and follow this dream job.

Maybe this woman is the same person, or has a similar situation.

I am not connected with this school district, nor do I know any of the students or teachers. I just think that jumping to conclusions about this situation is a bit sad.

  3. There was never mention of a child incident in any of the communication sent from the school district around this Educator leaving. This is false news, the headline and the information in the story. Expect phone calls to the editor. It doesn’t pay to be friends with individuals that have had children with unmanageable aggressive behavioral issues. Many children were assaulted by the individual you are getting your information from, who is no longer in the district by choice.

    1. Mary, How do YOU have any knowledge on who or where information is coming from, unless there is a student incident after all. Otherwise why would you state “It doesn’t pay to be friends with individuals that have had children with unmanageable aggressive behavioral issues. Many children were assaulted by the individual you are getting your information from, who is no longer in the district by choice.”? It sounds like you know exactly what’s going on, and are taking a side on the situation, without sharing any real details of a situation that you claim is “false news”. Either tell the story, or keep your mouth shut, because at this point you are doing exactly what you’re accusing the Author of the article of doing!

      1. Julie – I believe Mary is referring to the possible alignment that this author has with Suzan Atallah. Last year there were issues brought to light about how poorly behavior issues were handled when Suzan was running for school board. Last week Suzan posted her personal narrative of information about this teacher’s departure on her own public FB page (since deleted). Suzan was in search of an attorney for someone else and now this vague article is written (without Suzan’s claims) by a journalist who wrote articles covering Suzan’s candidacy for D118 School Board. BTW – NOBODY EVER SAID THIS TEACHER PUT HER HANDS ON A CHILD. We need to support the students and the staff at these schools. Any opinion without collaborative information from the district, teacher or parents is completely unnecessary and counter productive to progress.

  4. Not at any point at all is it okay to put your hands on a child! None, nor can it be justified in any way. Are you really blaming the child having anger issues? Unreal! Not sure how you would ever accept that

    1. Your speculation is laughable & do you know that actually occurred? You don’t and your response is pure speculation & rumors.

    2. I am a special education teacher.
I have no idea if there was or wasn’t an incident with this teacher. However, your comment about how it was never OK to put your hands on a child is complete nonsense. In Illinois we have something called CPI, which is a hands ON technique for dealing with a student who is putting himself for others in danger. There are times when the behavior is so extreme that you simply must put your hands on a student in a carefully managed way to prevent injury. So it is you who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. And this is entirely legal if done within the guidelines. Educate yourself before you mouth off.

      1. I have a special needs daughter who would have temper tantrums at school and at home. She definitely needed to be put in a basket hold. With that, you grab the child/person from behind and wrap your arms around them and if they decided to kick you, you sat them down on the floor with your legs wrapped around their legs so they quit kicking.

      2. The true intention of CPI is crisis intervention through verbal de-escalation techniques. Yes, CPI trained educators are trained how to deflect hits, kicks, and free themselves from chokes, bites, and hair pulls, but the physical intervention is not the main focus of CPI.

      3. Thank you I know nothing about this incident other than I just read, but you are 100% right and so many people spelled off and misrepresent

      4. AMEN!!! My wife was a 3rd and 4th grade teacher for 10 years. The abuse she endured at the hands of some students who had little to no self control, anger issues and (here’s the kicker), neither did their parents. If you haven’t been in the school system for the past 30 years, you probably have no idea what’s going on.

        1. TRUTH! I taught for over 30 years and I have seen teachers and administrators with bruises because students became out of control. CPI is good in situations where a student can be talked down from the behavior. The holds are necessary to protect the student, other students, and staff that are handling the situation. Most people who are not in the educational field have not seen a classroom in months, years, or decades. In 3 decades, I have seen parental and public support for teachers drop severely. I have seen students who expect to receive a passing grade when they do not do the class/home work or pass tests (due to the minimum F rule of 50%), and parents who have every opportunity to see the students’ grades long before report cards, but call the school and/or the teacher on the last day of the quarter and want the teacher to take their child’s missing work. I have heard parents deny that their child did anything wrong (even though it is on video at times). I have heard parents lie for their child. Being a classroom teacher is a great deal more complex today than it was 10 years, 20 years, 50 years ago. School districts need to treat education as a business would: don’t show up for work without a valid reason, don’t do or complete work assigned, show disrespect to fellow workers and management, etc. are all reasons to be disciplined or let go. Unfortunately, a large amount of the tax money for education goes to District Office salaries (not necessary supplies or teachers), curriculum programs that do not advance student learning and textbook companies (whose books are not geared for today’s students).

    3. It is acceptable to put hands on a student to protect others or even the student themselves. I once had a student who would repeatedly bang, hard, his head on the cement block wall–situations like this, simply saying stop is not going to work. You cannot “reason” with a student in this situation. I have no idea what happened in this case, but your statement that it is “never” acceptable to out your hands on any student is either very naive or partial of the problem we have in education.

    4. No, sometimes kids need to be spanked so they understand that actions have consequences. It’s no wonder why we have all these unruly out of control people and kids ever since the government stepped in and decided that parents couldn’t discipline their kids and teachers couldn’t discipline students. I was born in 1992 and all through Middle school and high school I purposely got into trouble because you know what would happen? I’d get suspended hahaha vacation from school for misbehaving, ya that makes a lot of sense. NOT! And I exploited the crap out of it.

    5. Ok Linda so by that logic when a child shows up to school and starts shooting their classmates tge staff shoukd just let them yeah. Cuz at no point is it OK to put your hands on a child right ? You and ppl like you are the reason kids today are unruly that think they can act any way they want. I’m 42 and if I did half the things kids do today in school the teacher wouldn’t have to touch me, my parents would have. Fear breeds respect. When you fear the consequences you respect the rules. But ppl like you are the reason kids act the way they do and why those same kids end up incarcerated. Even prisons in America are soft and ppl dont fear being incarcerated no more. 3 hot meals, cable tv, no responsibility, why would you fear it. I am tell by your post that you think everybody gets a trophy and you dont keep score at games cuz everybody is a winner. But thats not how it works in the real world. You set kids up for failure. Thats why when these kids get in the real world they decide to do mass shootings at their jobs, schools, etc. Bring back spankings and start disciplining these kids. Instead you preach coddling them. I’ll also point out every kid now days that misbehaves ppl like you say well they have add or add. That is statically impossible for every child to have some kind behavioral issue. What they have is a lack of structure and discipline because parents today “need a break” and bury their face in a screen instead of raising their children and if parents like you need a break from your own children how do you think these teachers feel. But thats OK when your child harms my child at school you won’t have to worry about the school staff putting their hands on him cuz I will show up and beat ur kid til he/she tells me where the live then I’ll show up to your door and beat you until you realize your child harming my child won’t be tolerated cuz my children didnt have behavior problems at school, they knew better, they knew there were consequences fir their actions while your kids think they can act anyway they want. You are one of the reasons there shoukd be selective breeding. Not everybody shoukd be allowed to have children.

      1. Ray, you’re saying that you would go to a school and beat up a child? I find this troubling and would suggest that you seek professional help ASAP.

    6. Wow, you guys all sound like nitpicky teachers so what I’m reading is a teacher of retiring age retired early regardless of a situation that happened in her class or may have happened in her class and a parent of a unruly child had something to do with it or may or may not have had something to do with it Wow this is not news. This is gossip in the teachers lounge.

    7. Yaaaa. Iv seen students straight BEAT on teachers. Idgaf. You put your hands on me I will make sure you take them off. Just because someone is a minor does not give them the right to assault someone, that type of thinking is why these kids have no accountability.

    8. i hope one day some kid starts spitting and kicking and throwing things at you or maybe your daughter while they try to teach the normal kids. Then maybe you will understand that wokes who believe kids should never be punished are the reason we have insane, out of control kids shooting up schools.

      1. We need special schools or group homes for these kids too dumb or bad to learn. It’s not right to punish all students with these others constantly disrupting class or flaying about no matter what their problem is. Put them in a facility until they have been rehabilitated, especially if they get a check from the government.

    9. I’m sorry but I can think of multiple situations where “putting your hands on a child” would be more than appropriate. Bleeding hearts are the reason this generation is horrible

    10. I have had children hit me and kicked me so I guess you think that is acceptable behavior from a child and the teacher should just allow it.

    11. Children don’t have “anger issues”, they have “reactions to how teachers and parents treat them issues”.

  5. All of this will come to light shortly. We’re waiting for the district to deliver an accurate and honest account of what truly happened in this student incident. The community deserves the truth.

  6. I actually had Mrs. Tiernan about 15 years ago, and can remember it being the first (and last) time I felt like I had a teacher that actively disliked me. Can’t speak to if she’d lay a hand on a kid, though.

    1. OK, so that makes more sense. Thank you Kyle for enlightening us. At least we have an honest outlook on what may have happened. Maybe it wasn’t an unruly child. Maybe it was a teacher that was very tired and ready to retire and perhaps should’ve been retired a long time ago without -year

  7. Since when are “secret” school board meetings held without providing records to the public? I’m not suggesting that inaccurate information should be bantered about but minutes of meetings held by educators should be always made available to the public. I don’t like the boards deciding what records are to be kept from the public.

    1. Closed sessions are held when Privacy laws are being followed, and the public is not entitled to know. If an official action comes from those proceedings, then the vote occurs in open and public meetings with minutes written and disclosed.

      1. I was a reporter for several different news outlets for over 15 years, and the most common frustration that reporters had among ourselves, no matter what city I was in, were the closed session excuses. Usually it was always a “personnel matter.” It was the single-most abused method that we encountered for shutting out the press. Closed sessions became a joke in literally every reporter pool of which I’ve been a part. Nobody was looking to do a hit piece; we were simply trying to do our job and convey to the public what the government was doing for and to its citizens.

  8. The problem with no due process can be addressed by filing an EEO complaint with an attorney and the teacher can submit documentation and the school district can submit documentation and the teachers association as NEA may have lawyers that deal with age, gender, religion or other discrimination. Or the teacher could hire her own lawyer . Also THE SCHOOL DISTRICT needs to show evidence how the “Incident” was in violation of school regulations or laws. If the teacher had to stop the student from hurting her or another student or if the school administration ignored the teachers request to have the student evaluated. Even the BEST TEACHERS are accused by parents of incidents that never occured. Parents and the PTO can help by asking teachers if they need parents to volunteer for class activities and encourage parents to volunteer.

  9. I’ll be honest, I have no connection to this district, no idea where it’s even located, but reading comments show just how one sided this situation will be. Poor student was mishandled and teacher leaves or is let go. A few comments state there’s no reason a teacher should put hands on a student or be aggressive with a student. This shows just how clueless people are when it comes to behaviors of students. You expect a teacher to put up with being pushed, hit, spit at, or have things thrown at them. All of that is acceptable? Teachers shouldn’t have to work in those conditions. Students will learn one way or another that bad behavior has consequences and I’d rather my kid be manhandled a little by a teacher before they are old enough to be manhandled by the police or a cellmate. Hope the teacher has a great retirement.

    1. Are you aware what the student did? Neither do we. Since we all have no idea, then isn’t it best to get to the truth rather than protect the unknown?
If you want your kids to go to a school where teachers can put hands on the children for discipline, good luck finding that advertised. Teachers hitting students isn’t a good sell. It won’t be allowed by law. This is the 21st century.

      1. There are states that require a teacher to sign that being hit, bit, kicked, or hair pulled is part of accepting the job a signed contract. There are schools in this country which have inclusion students that are disruptive, aggressive an violent.. I would not teach in those environment without a stun gun. Dod schools used to have parents sit with thier misbehaving students.
Teachers are not psychologist, social workers, counselors, police officers security guards etc. A teachers job is to teach in a classroom with children who can behave in a good, safe enviornment and when a child misbehave can be controlled easily. We are so fortunate to still have such dedicated teachers, in these times. Teacher certainly need a pay.raise.

    2. Why are you responding as if it’s clear there was an act of violence? There are many things that could fall into the category of ‘incident’, and it’s reckless for people to start speculating in a particular vein.

  10. This is trash! Slurring a teachers name like this with NO proof. She has an impeccable record in the district. While, laying a hand on a student is never acceptable-this article should be taken down until there is more information.

    1. I see nothing but facts here. This needs to be addressed and should be under public scrutiny rather than under lock and key.
It is apparent something bad happened if students are in need of therapy.
The school board is doing a great job in keeping the events secret, the teacher appears to be on leave ( vacation), not dismissed.
This has all the signs of covering tracks until the teacher gets her pension at the end of the school year.

This news organization and all others SHOULD get to the bottom of this. If the teacher is unable to work with children due to some issue she may have done, then her pension should not be protected over the safety of children.
We shouldn’t reward bad behavior, there should be consequences.

What a great life to do something messed up, have board meetings in secret to keep it quiet, get a long vacation until next year, then pull a pension. Seems like she is protected to me.
There is SOME type of privilege happening here, and it ain’t for the kids.

        1. I did exactly that, David. I was shocked to see that today’s schools are, to a great extent, comparable to mental wards. I saw a lot of dedicated, professional teachers, but their efforts to educate are largely mitigated by woke, social worker-types who spend their days NOT holding a child’s arm to avoid being punched — again; NOT redirecting a child who is demanding access to some part of the classroom that’s off-limits; NOT ever telling a student ‘no.’ Turns that’s ‘triggering.’ Who knew?
Today’s teachers spend their careers protecting property, children, and themselves from criminals-in-training. No wonder crime rates are rising. Every year, schools graduate thousands of new gang and cartel members.

  11. Unless the were there you are merely speculating. Not speaking on this incident due to lacking and facts of a so called incident. I’ve seen actual video footage of students attacking teachers. It does happen. So you people saying teachers should not put their hands on a student even to defend themselves are ridiculous. But again this story lacks facts.

  12. What are we back in the ’70s down south where they had paddle rooms. I grew up in those times! I would hope we are long past those days. Everyone who is commented is correct there is no reason to lay your hands on a child ever! Teachers spend a lot of time learning how to correct a child without having to lay hands on them in any manner

    1. And ppl like you wonder why everyday we hear of kids taking guns to school. Yiu grew up in the times of paddle rooms huh, so how many kids brought guns to school ? Im not saying teachers should paddle kids at school but 100% there needs to consequences. Personally if your kid repeatedly misbehaves at school then they shoukd no longer be allowed to attended school. You home school your unruly kid, you deal with them. Then parents like you cry I have a job and blah blah blah. So teachers shoukd just have to put up with your unruly child cuz not even you want to deal with them. Your soft, I bet your children are soft. Congratulations you are part of the problem.

      1. You are very disrespectful to people and keep attacking folks as if you know them or their children. Children learn by modeling what their parents do, so if their parents are bullies, well, what do you think the children are? Teachers are not supposed to have to lay hand on students. When I grew up, the teachers called and spoke to a parent and that was enough. Parents would be livid and kids would be in TROUBLE- all without a teacher raising a hand. The responsibility was placed back on THE PARENTS, where it belongs.

      2. Kids have been shooting up schools since the 70’s, pal. They are just becoming more and more prevalent and it’s not because we stopped beating our kids near to death, but because the world is screwed in general. By all means though, keep beating your kids. Maybe they will thank you for it by choosing you a nursing home where they might change your underpants once a week.

      3. Ray, based on your pattern of comments on this article and your woeful grasp on the English language, it’s clear you should go back to school with the rest of these kids. Maybe you can rant and rave about paddling the young’uns while everyone else absorbs the basics of 3rd grade grammar and diction…

  13. I normally don’t post any comment online but this article caught my attention. I taught many years ago before the out-of-control climate of disrespectful behavior of students AND parents. Many comments on this site are disgusting and, most importantly, without merit.
EVERYONE today is encouraged to share their unwanted and unwarranted opinions without having the slightest idea of what is fact and what is fiction. Social media has become overrun with inflammatory situations such as this one. I find the ENTIRE situation being aired on this forum as inappropriate and should be STOPPED for everyone’s best interest. It’s time to be adults, speak face to face and NOT inflict unnecessary harm on others. Not everything on your mind needs to be posted. Some of your opinions, especially when you don’t have all the facts, can be kept to yourself. Playing games and gossiping about another person’s reputation is a VERY dangerous game, indeed! How would YOU like this mindless banter happening to you or one of your loved ones?
Right. I didn’t think so. I highly recommend watching the scene “Feathers of Gossip” from the movie “DOUBT” to better illustrate this point.

    1. Thank you for the voice of good reasoning. Your comment is very professional and correct. I pray whatever happened will be handled with the best result for all concerned. God knows so talk with him about helping instead of all the terrible things being said. The tongue is an uncontrolable weapon if you don’t at least attempt to bridle it.

  14. Spare the rod, spoil the child.

There ARE times where it is ok fir a teacher to lay hands on a child. To protect the student, other students, or the teacher.

Stacy made a great point about getting to the child before they are man handled as adults by the police, cell mates, or other individuals.

  15. To everyone saying this is “slurring” teacher and reputation, she was let go. Not for nothing. Everyone is so impatient and demanding details. It will eventually be known. And unless it’s YOUR child, no, you aren’t entitled to know.

  16. Teaching is becoming too dangerous. All of a sudden we can’t let this woman get her full retirement. Someone has an ax to grind. Everyday a new teacher is accused of whatever. Parents want their 15 minutes of fame at any cost.

  17. I’m curious as to what the point of this article was when there’s literally no actual information. A teacher was allegedly dismissed but they can’t actually dismiss them without that being part of the public record but there is no public record on this so they can’t have been dismissed? There was allegedly an incident with the student but there are no details whatsoever.

  18. Jennifer

    You are so right!

We’ve had a student give two different teachers concussions. It doesn’t seem people will be happy until he kills one of us.

  19. Public record is important. Tale as old as time. If counselors brought in then children experienced trauma due to the teacher’s absence. I wrote a book on my experience from 1998. School distticts artorneys are predictable. Always stay public. Some advice for good teachers. Stopping School Violence One Teacher’s Silent Scream…my book published in 2024. Worth the read. 126 pages of sworn taped testimony backed me up.

  20. The school didttict lied about me and a reporter never reached out to me when she published an article about me. I never stopped sharing so maybe someone else gets strength to speak up.

  21. Having no connection with the education establishment (aside from the two degrees I earned), I can see what an utter catastrophe the modern K-12 system is. I don’t know how you people do it.

  22. Sounds like the school board let this go to long and has caused this teacher to be judged for things perhaps she has nothing to do with.
Its the school boards job to give the information as quickly as possible. Parent’s have the right to know,so they can make their own minds up about what they want to do with their children.

    1. Teachers have a hard job, dealing with some students that are let run like wild dogs.Parents need to be parenting their children stop trying to be their best friend.Prepare your children to be productive and respectful in society. That’s the just of it.

  23. I feel that this teacher is being railroaded. It’s obvious some lowlife wants his/her “15 min. of fame”. Whatever happened shouldn’t be kept from the public. Why the secrecy?

  24. Funny to see out advocacy of child abuse from idiots here. Another reminder that the electorate is a perennial disappointment.

  25. Stop! All of you! I’m embarrassed by the bickering, the misspellings and grammatical errors. Educators ? Wow.

  26. What an empty story. I came here expecting to read about some teacher or student having a sexual escapade and indulging in sexual encounters of the 3rd kind. Its sad that we cant get a truthful headline or a full bodied story anymore. As for the teacher, well she isnt like butt ugly. At least she isnt fat. But the child is protected. We dont know if he was a Screech type or an A.C. Slater or what. Its a sad day when we cant read about what happens behind the scenes in public classrooms. Hopefully this school district comes forward with some dirty laundry soon. And hopefully the next news article details the story a lot better with details we all want to read. There should be talk on the playground about what happened. These kids know whats up. Someone should interview them and get the facts. We have a right to know and There should be full disclosure and transparency. I cant wait for the follow up.

  27. What IF the TEACHER was assaulted by one of her students? What IF she decided she wasn’t going to teach any more and the district is OK with her being on a leave of absence till the situation is handled and she retires? Everyone has assumed the teacher is at fault WITH NO REAL INFO? We do have societal issues dont we?

  28. When I was back in school when you got smart with a teacher they beat the shit out of you right there in front of everybody and they should go back to that system! In fact if you got smart with the next door neighbor he would beat your ass it wouldn’t matter if you were six or seven or nine and then you would come home and your father would whoop your ass and then you would go to school and the school teachers would whip your ass and then you would call the cops on them and the cops will whip your ass too and tell you to watch your mouth! Guess what! We didn’t have any school shootings! I had my first gun with ammo and everything when I was 10! The kids don’t fear you they’re not going to listen to you and also the public’s the same way if they don’t fear the police that’s why they carry guns so people will follow the laws! Violence is what keeps law and order nothing else! 💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸

  29. I do not think that this woman’s pension should be taken from her whatever that she’s done she earned that pension before that took place. Even if she end up going to prison if this crime or whatever she committed is that serious she still should get her pension because when people get out of prison they have a tendency to turn back to that that they’ve done because they have no way to survive if they paid for the crime they’ve committed society always want to hold you down they never seem to want to forgive you for anything that you’ve done if the person have paid for their crimes that they have committed they should continuously have to relive the punishment we are not God that’s God’s job the Bible said vendors is mine he will repay not then just a societies or the world anybody out there that’s listening or watching to this particular thing they know if they did something wrong they would want to be forgiven that’s what’s wrong with America now they can’t seem to let nothing go that’s why you constantly see commercials running over and over and over and over it’s the same purchase plan over and over and over let’s be real about this.

  30. This stuff of nit being able to have the public having access to disciplinary records and reasons for terminations is complete nonsense. These people are being paid by the community we should gave the absolute right to know why a employee is terminated. This applies to all public services jobs. This wall of secrecy is utter B.S.

  31. My sympathy is for this experienced sped teacher
A close relative was a sped teacher for primary grades. They have been head butted, received a black eye, been punched in the mouth where their teeth went their thru lips, and kicked in the stomach. These were from small children. Administration was not helpful, because no schools want to pay tuition to place students out of district. Teachers have no support & not enough trained paraprofessionals, that’s why they’re leaving the profession in droves. Parents don’t want to be responsible for their child’s behavior, or admit there is even a problem.

  32. Humans, know right + wrong.
Leaders, your responsibility is to share ALL known facts or NONE.
About who? Teacher of 40 years, or teacher of 40 days. Perhaps, it is time, after partially removing the lid of a bee hive, which you control, the hive is then held under your naked, buttocks, in a public setting.

  33. I don’t care if the students are Autistic, Mentally Handicapped or whatever. They should not be allowed to physically assault anyone ever. We have become so weak and complacent as a society. I believe in and support corporal punishment. Teachers endure so much abuse because parents can’t discipline their children anymore. Timeout? A joke! Take their phones? Their friends have phones. Too many people complaining about how to discipline someone else’s child. Stay out of it! Because it’s people like the teachers who suffer the most. China and Japan do not have these issues for a reason!

  34. This comment section is exactly why comment sections never should’ve become a thing. Get a life, people.

  35. I hope you all realize you are arguing over a system that cannot be fixed. It is the dysfunctional K-12 public school system that we have today. If any of you have kids in that system, get them out today. Your options are home schooling or private or parochial schools. As you can see by this debate, many posts are by public school teachers who can’t even spell words correctly or put together sentences correctly. Many of the teachers are woke activists. For the sake of your kids get them out now.

  36. ? So. A teacher is no longer employed. There was a “student incident” in the past at the school where said teacher WAS employed. Was SHE involved in that incident? How did YOU learn of this? MUCH MORE INFORMATION is needed to make this a complete and coherent story! This is like Once upon a time, a man was born. He lived. Then he died. The End. NO STORY!
