The Palos Lions Club will kick off its annual Christmas tree sale on Saturday and is looking for volunteers to help unload and set up trees as well as needed while the sale lasts.
Service hours are available for the volunteers who are needed late afternoons, early evenings and weekends from Nov. 22 until Dec. 15 at the tree lot at 12650 S. Harlem Ave. in Palos Heights.
Delivery and set up on Saturday will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers include dozens of high school students, local political officials and local Lions Club members. They all pitch in to unload 700 trees and get them ready for sale.
“They also get to enjoy the fragrance of the fresh cut trees,” Hyker said.
If interested, contact Dennis Hyker at 708-770-7264.
Palos Lions have been supporting the community for 75 years and the tree sale has been a holiday tradition for 60 years. Money raised is used to support local causes including six annual student scholarships and to support the needy.
Organizations that have received support over the years includes The Crisis Center, The Center of Palos Park, Special Olympics, Park Lawn, Together We Cope, Heartland service dogs, Power girls softball and Palos Baseball, Elsie’s food pantry, Camp Lions, Treasure Chest and Chicago Light House for the Blind.
“Please volunteer,” Hyker said. “Even a few hours helps. Buy a tree to help support our local Palos community. It feels good.”
