Harry Rakerd, 72, a kindhearted man known for his love of music, sports and nature, died peacefully Nov. 13, 2025, in his hometown of Berwyn.
He was born June 23, 1953, in Berwyn. From a young age, Rakerd showed a deep passion for music, remembering lyrics and melodies with ease. He was equally devoted to sports, often seen cheering at local games with enthusiasm that friends described as contagious. He also found joy in the outdoors, spending time hiking and tending to his garden.
Rakerd approached his work with dedication and purpose, earning the admiration of colleagues for his commitment and positive spirit. Even after retiring, he continued pursuing projects that reflected his interests and allowed him to serve his community.
A devout Christian, Rakerd lived out his faith through acts of kindness, generosity and compassion. His family and friends say his everyday actions reflected the Scripture he cherished.
He was known for bringing joy to others — his laughter, guidance and gentle nature leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He often quoted Ralph Waldo Emerson’s words about living a life that helps others breathe easier, and those who knew him say he embodied that ideal.
Rakerd is survived by his wife, Diane; his sister, Angie; his three stepchildren; and many friends.
