Four southwest suburban communities held Veterans Day ceremonies last week to honor military service members.
In Bedford Park, village officials and residents gathered at 9 a.m. at Wintrust Sports Complex for the annual ceremony. Village Trustee Terrance Stocks honored veterans and first responders for their service.
Mayor David Brady spoke at the event, which featured the Argo Community High School Choir, keynote speaker Father Brandt and Pastor Michael Miller. Tom Tedeski played “Taps” and John Ludwig performed on bagpipes. Officials served brunch after the ceremony.
Lyons Mayor Christopher Getty hosted his community’s ceremony at 11 a.m. in the Village Hall Community Room. Rachelyn Primm and Allison Sokolowski sang the National Anthem, while Chief Tom Herion led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Post Commander Gordon Marsh served as guest speaker. Dave Molinari provided music, Bruce Quintos played bagpipes and John Borland played bugle. U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Letty Europa and Sgt. John Aguirre presented a wreath. Pastor Allan Peterson from Lyons Evangelical Free Church delivered the prayer.
Forest View moved its annual program indoors to Village Hall’s Art Treckler Room due to weather. Mayor David Liska welcomed attendees at 11 a.m. and the Brookfield VFW Color Guard presented flags.
Fifth-grade students from a nearby home school sang the National Anthem. U.S. Army veteran Angel A. Melendez Jr. delivered the keynote address.
In Stickney, Mayor Jeff Walik joined village officials, veterans, first responders and residents at 11 a.m. for the ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on Ridgeland Avenue.
