The aroma of chicken Vesuvio, Vesuvio potatoes, broccoli, vodka pasta and soup filled the air Thursday, Oct. 23, at La Bella Events as the Aging Care Connections Congregate Meals Program served lunch.
The program offers meals to anyone 60 or older, their spouses regardless of age or sex, and individuals with disabilities ages 18-59 who live with a 60-plus adult in a non-institutional household. The buffet costs $3 per person.
Those who cannot afford to pay still receive a meal free of charge.
“It’s a great way for people to have a delicious meal at a great price,” said Desiree Scully, executive director of Aging Care Connections. “Nobody gets turned away, and it’s an affordable way to enjoy a nutritious lunch and the company of friends.”
Meals are served Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at La Bella Events, 5412 S. LaGrange Road. Reservations are required 48 hours in advance by calling 708-603-2269.
La Bella owner Rosaelena Botello and manager Carol Botello said they are proud to partner with Aging Care Connections to serve the community.
“We wanted to get involved and offer this to those in the area,” Carol Botello said.
The congregate meals program has been taking place for nearly a year at La Bella.
In addition to the lunch buffet, La Bella Events hosts weddings, showers, birthday parties, corporate events, funeral luncheons and catering. The venue offers ample parking in front and behind the building.
Menus rotate monthly and include dishes such as chicken parmesan, pizza, lasagna, grilled fish, tacos, orange chicken, burgers, ribs and Italian beef. Each meal includes soup, salad, vegetables, bread, milk and coffee.
Jan Walch, director of philanthropy and communications for Aging Care Connections, joined Scully Thursday to explain the organization’s mission.
Aging Care Connections aims “to enrich the quality of life in our community by providing older adults and their families with guidance and support that enhances the ability to age well.”
