Salvador “Papa Chava” Alvarez, 79, of Summit, died Nov. 9, 2025, surrounded by family.
He was born in 1946 and married Soledad Alvarez in 1966. The couple celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Alvarez worked 41 years at Corn Products (Ingredion) before retiring. He was known for his love of nature and caring for animals.
Survivors include his wife, Soledad; children Susana (David) Koulouris, Sylvia (J. Jesus) Guerrero, Sergio (Consuelo) Alvarez, Sandra (Ibrahim) Hazeen and Sonia (Candelario) De Dios; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several siblings.
He was preceded in death by great-granddaughter Adalyn.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave., Summit, followed by a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
