Months of uncertainty about the future of Argo District 217 Supt. William Toulios ended Thursday night when the school board accepted his immediate resignation.
Toulios’ resignation came after months of criticism over more than $8,000 in personal charges he made on a district credit card.
Public records requests filed in April 2024 revealed payments to adult-content websites, nearly $4,700 in prepaid Visa gift cards, and other expenses with no connection to school business.
Toulios repaid less than $600 and the school board’s initial handling of the matter drew sharp backlash from residents, staff and alumni.
The board went into closed session at 6:32 p.m. Thursday night and came back at 6:54. When they returned, the district’s attorney said Toulios was resigning effective immediately, with no severance package and only the vacation payout required by state law.
“There is no payment for the resignation agreement,” the attorney said, adding that Toulios had signed a full waiver of all claims. He then confirmed the outcome: “Effective immediately, Dr. Toulios is resigning from the employment of the board.”
The agreement also includes a mutual letter of reference and a mutual nondisparagement clause, which the attorney said were standard terms. The board approved the deal on a unanimous vote and adjourned at 6:56 p.m.
Toulios was placed on administrative reassignment in April while the board investigated the charges. Thursday’s vote makes his departure final.
Principal Dr. Brandon Cotter has been acting superintendent since April.
Shortly after Toulios was reassigned, the school board ousted longtime board president Dan Kozal and vice president Nick Caprio.
Dr. Jennifer Grenier was elected board president and Cathy Jozwiak was elected vice president.
Argo High School District 217 serves about 1,800 students and is one of the largest line items on property tax bills for local residents in Summit, Bridgeview, Justice, Bedford Park, Willow Springs and part of Hickory Hills.
The next school board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19.

Corruption, pay to play, nepotism and patronage is rampant in Summit area politics, school boards, park districts, public works and many other public funded boards and jobs. One can only look at how corrupt Democrat Bill Mundy was and how he cheated the citizens out of money and lined his own pockets due to political influence and bribery. The citizens of Summit, Cook County and the whole state of Illinois need to vote out the corrupt Democrat political machine that has caused so much grief and has squandered taxes for their own financial gain. Just look at how much money Illinois Democrats have spent on Illegal Foreign Nationals who do not belong in the United States and how much money is wasted trying to educate children who do not belong in the United States at the expense of the children of citizens!!!
