Attention, Southwest Regional readers. Get those planners out and phones in hand, because the Palos Heights Public Arts Commission has announced the return of one of the city’s favorite holiday traditions. Lights in the Heights will kick off at Memorial Park, 76th Avenue and College Drive, on Friday, Nov. 28, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The first night will feature thousands of lights, festive music and the scent of cocoa will drift across the crowd. Families can gather by the fire with free hot chocolate and sweet treats while they wait for the big man himself, Santa.

The Palos Heights Fire Department will deliver him in style on a firetruck covered in sparkling lights, a moment that always earns cheers from the crowd.

This year’s event will shine even brighter. The city has approved a 6½-foot illuminated angel sculpture that will make its debut at the park during the celebration. The new addition will serve as a glowing centerpiece for holiday displays.

Residents who’ve attended in past years know the night is something special. One social media post called it “like a Hallmark movie,” while another invited everyone to “get some rosy cheeks and come out to Lights in the Heights.” The mix of lights, creating memories and running into familiar faces makes it one of the city’s most beloved traditions.

Santa’s grand entrance happens on opening night, and after that, Santa awaits his next appearances throughout the season. Stay tuned for updates on all the exciting Holidays in the Heights activities, including the parade and holiday market!

So, jot it down now and start the holiday season early. Memorial Park is the perfect place to get lost in the holiday spirit at Lights in the Heights.
