Saint Xavier University

As Trinity Christian College prepares to close its doors in spring 2026, nearby Saint Xavier University (SXU) has announced a partnership aimed at helping Trinity students continue their education without interruption.

The agreement, announced November 7, establishes SXU as an official teach-out partner for Trinity Christian College, ensuring a smooth transfer process for affected students. Under the partnership, SXU will offer automatic admission to all Trinity students, accept all earned credit hours, and match out-of-pocket tuition and costs.

Located in Palos Heights, Trinity Christian College has been an accredited Christian liberal arts institution for more than six decades. Its impending closure has left many students searching for options to complete their degrees.

In a written statement, Saint Xavier University Vice President of Enrollment Brian Hotzfield said the university stands ready to assist Trinity students during this time of transition.

“Inspired by our Mercy mission and faith in God, Saint Xavier University is ready to provide support and service to those in need,” Hotzfield said. “We are honored to be a teach-out partner with our neighbor, Trinity Christian, and grateful for the trust placed in us to assist students in transitioning to a new educational home.”

Founded in 1846, Saint Xavier University, located at 3700 W. 103rd Street in Chicago, is the first Catholic university established in the city and the most affordable Catholic college in Illinois. The university, rooted in the traditions of the Sisters of Mercy, offers more than 40 undergraduate programs and has been recognized nationally for its value and accessibility.

SXU officials said the university’s goal is to make the transfer process as seamless as possible, with students able to complete equivalent degrees in the same time frame they would have at Trinity.

“Deeply rooted in the Catholic tradition of compassion and our core value of hospitality, the Saint Xavier University community warmly welcomes the students from Trinity Christian College,” said SXU President Keith Elder, Ph.D. “During this time of transition, our shared faith presents an opportunity to grow together. We are honored to accompany these students on their continued educational journeys and proud to open the doors to their bright futures.”

In addition to the teach-out program, SXU is welcoming transfer students who wish to pursue majors or programs not covered under the agreement. Admission counselors will evaluate transfer credits on a case-by-case basis.

Trinity students are invited to visit Saint Xavier’s campus, meet with counselors, and explore financial aid options. SXU representatives will also visit Trinity Christian College on November 19 to meet directly with students.

More information about transfer opportunities and financial aid is available at www.sxu.edu or by contacting the SXU Office of Admission at 773-298-3050 or admission@sxu.edu.

Trinity also has teach-out agreements with Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Ill., and Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Mich.
