The Chicago Ridge Village Board unanimously approved a plan Oct. 21 to name a street in honor of former Trustee Brad Grove, who died Sept. 27.
The street renaming ceremony will be held at a date to be determined in the 10900 block of South McVicker Avenue, where Grove and his wife, Margie, raised their four children. The couple now has 15 grandchildren.
Grove served as a village trustee from 2005 to 2013. He was deeply involved with Our Lady of the Ridge Parish as a minister of care, president of the Men’s Club, and basketball coach for more than 20 years. He also owned Grove Masonry Maintenance Inc. and was active in several industry organizations.
“Thanks to the board for approving this. It will be an honor for me to preside over the ceremony for my close friend,” Mayor Jack Lind said.
Grove’s brother, Larry, attended the meeting and expressed gratitude for the gesture.
“It will be really nice for our family,” Larry Grove said. “My parents lived here forever, and my father was a trustee for more than 20 years. When he died, we decided against renaming a street for him. But Brad has been so active here, we thought it would be suitable this time. It will be great for all of us to see this done on the block where he lived.”
Also at the meeting, the board approved a business license for Southwest Highway Smoke & Vape Inc., located at 10343 Southwest Highway. The new business replaces Ridge Mart & More, which also sold smoking products alongside general merchandise.
Trustees Ed Kowalski and Elaine Davenport voted against the license. Trustee Bill McFarland, a frequent opponent of smoke shop licenses, was absent. With a 3-2 vote, Mayor Lind did not need to break a tie.
