Synal

Robert S. Synal passed away on Oct. 26, 2025. He proudly served as a Battalion Chief with the Chicago Fire Department, dedicating his life to helping others. Robert will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his strength, kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy of service and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He was married to the love of his life and best friend, Shirley (née Gora), and was the loving father of Robert, Sheri, Sandy (Joseph) Wos, Rick (Kelly), and Stefanie (Maggie). Nothing brought him greater joy than his family, especially his grandchildren—Joseph Robert, Patrick, Summer, Ricky, Joey, Abby, Michael, and Zachary—who adored their “Grandpa/Pa” and will forever cherish his stories, laughter, and love.

He was the dear brother of the late Bruno (late Marlene) Synal and brother-in-law of Geraldine (George) Garvey, and the fond uncle of many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th Street just west of Harlem). Visitation continues Monday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. until time of prayers at 10 a.m. Procession will follow to St. Symphorosa Church (Two Holy Martyrs Parish), 6135 S. Austin Ave., for an 11 a.m. Mass. Robert will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery.
