The McCord Gallery & Cultural Center, 9602 W. Creek Road, one of the region’s few nonprofit community arts organizations, is gearing up for its biggest event of the year — the Boots & Bling Gala, set for Saturday, Nov. 15, at The Signature Barn in Orland Park.
The annual event is McCord’s largest fundraiser, helping sustain a year’s worth of art classes, music lessons, exhibits, and community events that bring people together through creativity.
Founded in 2003 through the passion and hard work of local volunteers, McCord was born out of a community effort to preserve the historic McCord House by transforming it into an arts center. With the support of Palos Fine Arts, the Palos Park Women’s Club, and the District 118 Foundation, the group raised more than $30,000 to launch the nonprofit, which officially opened its doors in September 2004.
In 2011, McCord launched a capital campaign that led to the 2017 opening of the Anderson Annex — a major expansion that added a gallery, classrooms, a stage, and a full kitchen. Since then, the organization has grown steadily in membership and community involvement.
Now open six days a week, McCord serves as a creative hub for nearly 120 music students and 100 art students each session. Guided by an active Board of Directors, dedicated committees, and Executive Director oversight, the organization continues to evolve while staying true to its mission of fostering community through the arts.
“The Gala is what keeps these programs going and, quite literally, keeps the doors open throughout the year,” organizers said.
Early discounted tickets are still available for $150. Anyone who values the arts — or wants to support a local cultural treasure — is encouraged to attend.
