Families can celebrate the spooky season together during Moraine Valley Community College’s 12th annual Halloween 5K Run/Walk and accompanying Little Pumpkins Patch on Saturday, Oct. 25, beginning at 9 a.m. on the Palos Hills campus, 9000 W. College Parkway.
The chip-timed 5K invites runners and walkers of all levels to join in festive fun, with children’s activities and costume contests adding to the spirit of the day. While adults take on the 3.1-mile course, kids can enjoy the Little Pumpkins Patch, a free activity area open during and after the race. Supervised by trained staff, the patch features pumpkin decorating and Halloween-themed crafts.
At 10:15 a.m., young participants ages 3 to 12 can join the Kid’s Dash, a shorter sprint designed just for them. Costumes are encouraged throughout the morning, and prizes will be awarded for the best individual and group costumes as well as top race finishers by age category.
Registration for the 5K is $45 for community members and alumni and $35 for Moraine Valley students and employees, with prices increasing by $5 on race day. The Kid’s Dash costs $15, and children must be registered by a participating 5K runner to take part in the Little Pumpkins Patch. All pre-registered participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt.
The event is hosted by the Moraine Valley Health, Fitness & Recreation Center in partnership with the Moraine Valley Foundation, which will receive proceeds from the race to support student scholarships.
