Hundreds of residents turned out Saturday, October 4, for the Summit Fire Department’s biggest Open House yet, held from noon to 4 p.m. at the firehouse, 7339 W. 59th Street.

The family-friendly event offered something for all ages: live fire demonstrations, CPR training demonstrations, a petting zoo, a junior firefighter course, and more. Attendees enjoyed free hot dogs, popcorn, and Kona Ice courtesy of the department.

Kids and adults picked up giveaways from a full table of glow-in-the-dark firefighter hats, cups, ice packs, magnets, stuffed toys, and other fire safety items.

Local food vendors added to the fun with sourdough pizza and mini bagels from Bien Amargada-Sourdough by Diana, plus two pasta dishes from The Branding Iron.

Representatives from Torres Farmers Insurance and Joe Kelly State Farm offered insurance advice and giveaways, while the Argo Summit Lions Club handed out treats to children.

At 2 p.m., Chief Anthony Anderson and Firefighter Chris Weber led a live fire demonstration behind the firehouse, sharing tips on keeping homes safe from fire.

“It was a fantastic turnout—our biggest yet,” Anderson said. “We enjoy bringing the community together for a fun afternoon while teaching important fire safety.”
