Lewis Reed, 90, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Encanto Palms Assisted Living in Phoenix, Arizona. Born on March 9, 1935, in Bureau County Illinois, he was the son of Edward and Margaret (Larsen) Reed, who preceded him in death.

Lewis was the first head football coach at Peotone High School in 1970 and coached and taught math at Peotone from 1970-1975. Lewis also coached and taught math at Tampico High School, Bushnell High School, Forrest-Strawn-Wing High School, McLeansboro High School, and Flora High School, as well as Green River High School in Wyoming and Chippewa Hills High School in Remus, Michigan. Lewis loved coaching and positively impacting young people, as well as camping, fishing, and telling lies around the campfire.

Lewis is survived by his first wife Mary Katherine (Fields) Reed of McLeansboro; sisters, Barbara (Jim) Druin of The Villages, Florida, Dorothy DeLane and partner Jan of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Mary Sue (Chris) Costello of Jurupra Valley, California, and Cora (Mike) Baker of Elizabethtown, Kentucky; brother, Ron (Pat) Keutzer of Virginia Beach, Virginia; four children, La Donna Hall of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, Maury Reed and wife Shelly (St. Peters) of Mesa, Arizona, Valerie (Terry) Gibbs of Macedonia, and Joel and wife Paula (Wright) of Charleston. Lewis is survived by eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margaret Reed; a sister, Katherine Wilson; a son Michael Reed; and a grandson Brandon Reed.
