Saint Xavier University highlighted its commitment to health, education and community engagement by hosting its Community Health Fair on Sept. 23 at the Shannon Center. The annual event brought together dozens of local healthcare providers, nonprofits and service agencies, all with the goal of promoting wellness and empowering individuals to take charge of their health.
“Hosting the community health fair is an important way for Saint Xavier University to actively engage with and support both its campus and surrounding community,” said Imelda Macias, Ed.D., assistant vice president for Family and Community Engagement. “This event will promote health education, connect individuals with vital services, and raise awareness about local resources—especially for populations that may face barriers to care or information.”

The fair featured 50 vendors, including OSF Little Company of Mary, Gilda’s Club, Pathlights, Devine Nutrition, Home Instead, Core Fitness and Lunettes Family Eyecare. Attendees had access to a wide variety of offerings, from blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings to vision and hearing tests, nutrition advice and mental health resources. Workshops introduced participants to stress management strategies, journaling, drumming and sound bath therapy, as well as essential oils.
Macias said the fair is also an important opportunity for SXU students studying health-related fields.
“In addition to having local resources and services at the event, our students in the different health-related programs will also be on-site providing essential services,” she said. “This is a unique opportunity for the community to witness their dedication and skill and for the students to begin engaging with the communities that they will ultimately serve.”
The event underscored SXU’s mission of social responsibility and civic engagement, offering not just access to resources but also a chance to build stronger connections between the university and its neighbors.
“Our community resource and health fair is dedicated to empowering individuals and families by connecting them with vital health services, educational tools, and local resources,” Macias said. “Through free screenings, informative workshops, and meaningful community engagement, our goal is to foster healthier lives, build stronger connections, and provide hope and support for a thriving, informed, and resilient community.”
