The Squeeze Girls were at it again on Tuesday, August 26, making an afternoon of serving up tasty lemonade for a good cause.
The Squeeze Girls came about during the summer of 2023 and was the brainchild of 10-year-old Isabella Getty, daughter of Village of Lyons Mayor Christopher Getty.
“This is her fifth time over the last couple of years setting up shop for a great cause. She and the Squeeze Girls have sold lemonade in front of the Lyons Library, her school, Beds Plus Summit Service Center, and the Lyons Fire Department,” said Getty. “She picks a different entity every time.”
In front of the fire department, Isabella and her fellow Squeeze Girls, 5-year-old twins Alyse and Alynn Elia, of Lyons, sold the sweet treat from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., not including set-up and take down time, and raised $1,111, all of which was donated directly to the Lyons Fire Department as a heartfelt thank you for everything they do every single day to keep the community safe.
Getty fully supports the project his daughter thought of and put into motion a couple of years ago.
“I’m very proud of the fact that they choose to give back to the community and hold events that bring people together. It puts a smile on their faces, and the faces of others, all for a good cause.”
Lyons Fire Department Chief Gordon Nord said it was a terrific afternoon.
“It was outstanding,” he said. “Anytime the girls get together they do a fantastic job. They have good marketing going on between their fresh lemonade and the bracelets they sell to get donations. It teaches the young kids to get involved in their community. It brings the entire community together. It really was a great afternoon and so many people came out and had a good time while showing their support.”
