Cook County officials are asking residents affected by flash flooding between July 25 and July 28 to complete an online survey documenting property damage.
The Cook County Department of Emergency Management and Regional Security, in coordination with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency, is conducting the survey to better assess the extent of damage across the county. Officials say the data will help determine whether the county, the city of Chicago and the state can pursue federal or state disaster assistance.
“Submitting a damage report is voluntary,” EMRS said in a statement. “This is not a substitute for filing insurance claims, and it does not guarantee financial assistance.”

The survey is available in English and Spanish. Residents can access it by visiting cookgov.me/july2025storms or by scanning a QR code provided in public outreach materials. Language preference can be selected by clicking the top left corner of the survey page on mobile or desktop.
Cook County officials said they will continue working with local municipalities and state partners to evaluate storm damage and seek resources for affected communities.
