Ruben Garza Sr., a proud veteran, devoted family man, and longtime Chicago resident, died peacefully on July 9, 2025. He was 70.

Born on January 2, 1955, and raised in Chicago, Ruben served honorably in the United States Army and the National Guard. He later became a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating a transportation and delivery company for more than 20 years. Most recently, he continued his commitment to public service through his work with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Ruben was the beloved husband of Maria Ines Garza (née Perea); loving father of Alexander Bitterman, Jaclyn (Gaspar Jr.) Flores, and Ruben L. Garza Jr.; and cherished grandfather of Jaclyn Rose Flores and Julia Marie Flores.

He was the son of the late Rafael Garza and the late Maria Lydia Garza (née Jaramillo), and the dear brother of the late Eddie Garza, Aida (Tony) Robles, Rafael (Sylvia) Garza Jr., his twin Rey (Lupe) Garza, Yolanda Garza, Alicia (Demetrio) Diaz, and Chrissy Yanez. He was also a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews and a loving cousin and friend to many.

Ruben will be remembered for his strong work ethic, dedication to family, and unwavering sense of duty. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 17, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave., Summit, IL. Additional visitation will take place Friday morning, July 18, from 8:30 a.m. until time of prayers at 9:00 a.m. Procession will follow to Epiphany Roman Catholic Church, 2524 S. Keeler Ave., Chicago, for a 10:00 a.m. Mass. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
