Elizabeth A. DeRenzo, a lifelong learner and active volunteer, died July 12, 2025. She was 87.
Elizabeth was the loving mother of Theresa (David) Roberson, Nancy (Otto) Novota, Janet (late Patrick) Giblin, Lynn (John) Gemmellaro, and Laura (Keith) Ross. She was the cherished grandmother of Brian, David (Katie), Eric (Cesli), Jonfranco, Nicole (Richard), and Hunter, and fond sister of Antoinette. She will also be deeply missed by her nieces and nephews.
Education was one of Elizabeth’s proudest achievements. She earned a Master of Education in Instructional Leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in Art and English from Saint Xavier University. She brought that passion for learning into every aspect of her life.
She was a dedicated community volunteer and a familiar face at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where she served in various roles since 2007. Elizabeth was president of the hospital’s Auxiliary Board in 2018 and chaired the Health Advocacy Committee on its Board of Directors in 2016. She also contributed her time to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s “Race for the Cure” as a Coordinating Committee member.
Elizabeth believed in showing up for her community, her family, and causes close to her heart. Her commitment to service and lifelong learning leaves a lasting legacy.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave., Summit. A second visitation will take place Thursday, July 17, at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of prayers at 11:00 a.m., followed by a 11:30 a.m. Mass at St. Daniel the Prophet Church.
