On June 27, officers were assigned to the 24400 block of Arrowhead Drive for a hit and run accident involving a black Acura. Officers located the black Acura, driven by William V. Deprospero Jr., 51, of Chicago. Officers spoke with Deprospero and determined he was the driver who fled the scene of the accident. In speaking with him, officers detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Deprospero and asked him to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was arrested and charged with the following: Driving under the influence, alcohol concentration over .08, operation of uninsured motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and expired registration. Deprospero was assigned an initial court date of July 18 at the Will County Courthouse.
On June 28, officers were met by Jimenez Jimenez, 33, of Joliet, in reference to a previous police report. In speaking with Jimenez, officers learned he had a valid warrant for his arrest for possible stolen title/certification/plate, no valid driver’s license, and aggravated speeding in a work zone. Jimenez was arrested and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for the next bond hearing.
On June 28, officers observed a black Dodge speeding 50-mph in a 30-mph zone around East North and Park. Upon initiating a traffic stop, officers observed the driver and passenger switch seating positions. Officers then spoke with the driver, who was now in the passenger seat, Jeremiah M. Miller-Whittler, 19, of Park Forest, for identification. Miller-Whittler had a valid driver’s license and consented to a search of his vehicle. Officers located open cannabis inside the vehicle. A passenger, Joshua Porter, 19, of Park Forest, was found to be in possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number in his waist band and was arrested. Porter was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, no FOID/CCL card and was released with a notice-to-appear at the Will County Courthouse on July 30. Miller-Whittler was issued citations for unlawful possession of cannabis, no seat belt, and driver’s license not on person.
On July 3, officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of 100 Market Place on an Isuzu box truck for a window tint violation. Officers spoke with Jalen Jaquan Cooper, 23, of Florence, South Carolina. It was learned Cooper did not have a valid driver’s license and was cited for driving while license suspended, no window treatment on windows adjacent to driver/passenger, and assigned a court date of July 18.
On July 4, officers were conducting stop sign enforcement at Nelson and Groebe when they observed a white SUV disobeying the stop sign. Officers spoke with Jaiya R. Worthy, 22, of Manhattan. It was learned Worthy did not possess a valid driver’s license and was cited for driving while license suspended, operating uninsured motor vehicle, speeding, and disobeying a stop sign.
On July 5, officers were notified of a disturbance in the 300 block of State. Officers spoke with the complainant, who advised he was in a dispute about parking his vehicle on public property for a parade, when a resident spit in his face intentionally. Officers spoke with Michelle Onofre, 59, of Manhattan, who advised she was in a dispute with the victim and started yelling, at which point she may have spit on him due to not backing away. Onofre was arrested and processed for battery, then released with an initial court date.
On July 6, officers were in the area of Manhattan-Monee and Cedar Roads, when they observed a black four door vehicle with suspended registration. Officers conducted a traffic stop and spoke with Jamie P. Jacobson, 52, of Peotone. It was learned Jacobsen did not have a valid driver’s license. Jacobsen was cited for driving with suspended registration on vehicle, suspended driver’s license, and expired registration.
