Palos Heights is partnering with the Worth Park District to collaborate on recreational programs for the two communities.

The city approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Worth Park District on June 17 that allows for the coordination of recreational programs as needed.

Palos Heights Alderman Heather Begley said the partnership would help both towns maintain their programs when participation numbers are low.

“There’s a couple of programs that we run through the rec department that you need a certain number of participants for the program to run,” she said.

Palos Heights Alderman Jeffery Key clarified the logistics of funds, “We collect our funds, keep them here, and they collect their funds.”

City spending and construction updates included the approval of a payment of $102,756 to Simpson Construction and the annual fee of $6,082 to TimeClock Plus for the city’s parks and recreation departments’ administrative software purposes.

The council approved the purchase of a 2025 Ford Explorer for $47,007.

Alderman Patrick Scully and the council approved a special use permit allowing Revival Yoga Wellness Center to open a studio at 12211 S. Harlem Ave.

With temperatures rising  over 90 degrees, the pool staff may have to put in some overtime prepping for packed pool days.

Mayor Bob Straz urged residents to stay safe from the heat and to check on their neighbors.

“With the heat we have going on, check on your neighbors, especially if you’ve got elderly people in your house or your complex,” he said.

“If you have a problem, call 911. Don’t hesitate to call; that’s what we’re here for, and we can help you out.”

The next scheduled city council meeting is Tuesday, July 1.
