Monee village officials are looking for community input on a proposed transportation mobility plan involving local roads.
Village Administrator Ruben Bautista said last week it is crucial for residents to voice their opinions on the proposals the village believes will pose “significant concerns” for Monee neighborhoods.
The plan will be available for viewing during a public meeting hosted by the Will County Department of Transportation (WCDOT) on Thursday, June 26, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Monee Elementary School, 25425 S. Will-Center Road.
“During this public meeting, WCDOT will present their proposed East-West Freight Mobility Transportation Plan for Eastern Will County and will invite questions and comments from the public,” Bautista said.
“The focus of the discussion will be on gaining east-west connectivity from the Monee-Manhattan I-57 Interchange to Illinois Route 394 – the final piece in a project that has been many years in development.
“While we appreciate the county’s efforts to address regional mobility,” he continued, “some of the scenarios being proposed would pose significant concerns for Monee’s residents and our long-term growth objectives.
“It is critical our community is informed and engaged in this process.
“Among the proposals being considered: Scenario 1 involves extending Monee-Manhattan Road eastward, creating an overpass that would carry truck traffic over Governors Highway and the Canadian National Railway, continuing along a path north of the McCorkle Subdivision and Golf Vista, and passing between Monee Elementary School and Country Meadows.
“Scenario 2 would create a truck route that would cut between Walkers Grove and Heather Brook Subdivisions, between Rt. 50 and Will-Center Road – an area central to future commercial and residential development.
“Both options carry potential long-term impacts that merit community awareness and input. It’s essential residents can review these plans and make their voices heard.
“Encouraging residents to attend and share their perspectives,” Bautista noted, “is key to protecting Monee’s future residential and commercial growth.”
