The Archdiocese of Chicago will host a historic citywide celebration at Rate Field on Saturday afternoon honoring Pope Leo XIV, the first American pope who was raised in the south suburbs.

“Pope Leo’s message of peace, unity and the key to a meaningful life has resonated deeply around the globe,” the Archdiocese said in a release. “This celebration offers a unique opportunity for the people from Chicago and beyond to come together in shared pride for one of our own.”

Pope Leo, who grew up in Dolton, will deliver a special video message. Cardinal Blase Cupich will greet the crowd and be the main celebrant and homilist during the Mass.

Chicago Bulls announcer Chuck Swirsky will emcee the program.

Gates open at 12:30 p.m. The program begins at 2:30 p.m. and Catholic Mass will be said at 4 p.m. Parking will be available for $5.

Rate Field is at 333 W. 35th St.

On-site parking is available for $5.
