A long-time Peotone family has brought Pope Leo XIV to town.
Okay, not really the Pope, but a tasty sandwich named for him. You can find it at Dolomiti, the newest eatery – ”an Italian gem in downtown Peotone.”
Right now, 100 percent of the customer reviews are giving it a five-star rating.
All of them praise the fresh ingredients, authenticity of the Italian combinations, and great service from the Protti family staff.
“It is a family run business,” owner Andrea Protti emphasized. “It is a whole family effort!
“I was born in Miami and moved to Peotone in 2015, and we have been residents ever since.”
Andrea said it is his first sandwich shop, but “hopefully not the last!”

Once a wholesale cheese outlet operated by Andrea’s parents, Dolomiti has expanded to offer seven mouthwatering sandwiches, including the Southside Pope: Ham, Havarti cheese, Brie, lettuce, tomato, red wine vinegar, mayo, and honey mustard.
The others feature prosciutto, provolone, stracciatella, porchetta, cappicola, soppressata, salame, turkey, mortadella, burrata, gouda, and nduja in sophisticated combinations, with sun dried tomatoes, rocket salad, pistachio, tuna cream, and fig spread, all in generous portions.
There’s a vegetarian menu, too, along with one for Bambini (children) featuring ham, turkey, or peanut butter and jelly.
Prices range from $9 to $13, with children’s sandwiches $6 to $7.
The online menu notes that pizza and pasta are coming soon.
“We use top of the line ingredients and even make some of our ingredients in house,” Andrea emphasized. “We use all fresh, never frozen products.
“I would love for the community to understand that all of our products are of the highest quality, and everything is made to order, so please bear with us while we go through some of the growing pains. We will never serve you something we would not eat ourselves.
“Southside Pope is my favorite and the fan favorite,” he added.
“I believe once people warm up to the imported meats, they will fall in love with the variety of flavors and options we’ve brought.
“The menu is partially permanent, with the possibility of switching out one or two sandwiches, depending on demand. We also will try to incorporate seasonal foods into specials.”
Dolomiti was named for a mountain range in Northern Italy that is home to the Protti family.
“We thought it would be really nice to build our business around our heritage,” Andrea explained, adding they are thrilled to be part of both the business and residential community.
“We are members of the community ourselves and would love to see Peotone keep growing as a community by improving within ourselves. We figured adding an authentic upscale dining option can be a great representation of our great community,” Andrea continued.
“We are very happy to embark on this journey and very happy to have Peotone be a part of our family from here on out!”
Dolomiti is located at 216 N. Second Street, Peotone, and opens at 11 a.m. Order online at dolomiti-peotone-online-menu or call 708-792-7022.
