A man died after he was involved in a shootout Thursday night with Hickory Hills police.

Police said the shootout took place after they answered an armed robbery call at 8:45 p.m. at the Speedway station at 95th Street and Roberts Road.

Officers responded and located a suspect fleeing the area on foot. The suspect, armed with a handgun, fired at an officer who subsequently returned fire. 

The suspect continued to fire at police while fleeing into an alley. 

Officers located him in the alley, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. 

Officers rendered aid and he was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He was later pronounced deceased. 

The officer was transported to the hospital for minor injuries and released. 

This incident remains an active investigation by the Hickory Hills Police Department, the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force, and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.
