Darshan Gandhi wanted his first business venture to be memorable and his focus was on doing something special.

That was Gandhi’s goal when he opened Wing Snob, 6762 W. 95th St., Oak Lawn, in December. Wing Snob franchises have been opening up throughout the Midwest since the first began operating in Livonia, Mich., a Detroit suburb, in 2017.

Gandhi likes the philosophy behind the business — focus on doing one thing well. In this case, making chicken.

“The chicken is our main thing,” Gandhi said. “The chicken is not frozen and it is always fresh. It is also marinated and is juicy. We want the best quality and the best standards for the community.”

Gandhi wanted his first business opportunity to be something he really believes in.

“I wanted to do this for a while and now I’m doing it,” said Gandhi, who is also a chiropractor. “I look at this as a business opportunity and it is my passion.”

The grand opening was held Friday morning with the assistance of the Oak Lawn Chamber of Commerce. Mayor Terry Vorderer, Trustee Ralph Soch (6th) and Coleen Barkmeier, the village finance support specialist, also visited and took part in the ribbon-cutting.

And chicken is the thing at Wing Snob, Gandhi said, because it will hold its own with other local chicken franchises in Oak Lawn because of an emphasis on making the best chicken.

The menu includes boneless and traditional chicken meals with either fries or carrots and a soft drink. The menus focus on chicken but includes tenders, cauli wings and chicken minis. The chicken can be flavored with assorted ingredients, including garlic parmesan, teriyaki, honey barbecue, and Jamaican jerk.

Snob dips feature ranch, spicy ranch, honey mustard, and blue cheese.

Wing Snob includes combinations and side orders of onion rings, pretzel bites, and cornbread. Customers can order 16, 30, 40 and 50 wing meals. Visitors can also download an app to earn Snob perks and order online at wingsnob.com.

When considering owning a Wing Snob franchise, Gandhi felt comfortable operating out of Oak Lawn.

“Oak Lawn is a melting pot,” Gandhi said. “You have all these different ethnicities and cultures. We feel as though everyone would enjoy this. We really fit in right here.”

While the majority of customers come in for carry-out, many also come in to dine, Gandhi said. Five tables allow seating for at least 16 customers.

Vorderer welcomes Gandhi and his Wing Snob staff officially to Oak Lawn.

“What a wonderful way to welcome summer by having a chicken dinner,” said Vorderer with a laugh. “We wish you the best.”

Wing Snob is open from 11 a.m. to midnight daily. Orders and more information can be made by calling 708-995-9464.

“I want to thank everybody for coming out,” Gandhi said at the grand opening celebration. “I want to thank Mayor Vorderer for all his suggestions, Coleen Barkmeier and the chamber. I’m happy to be part of the community.”
