With a packed house and a technical glitch, new Mayor Chris Vieaux was sworn in.

But only after the results of the election and abstract of votes were approved.

Incumbent trustees Nick Strba and Jackie Richards took their oath of office, along with returning trustee Patrick Bowden.

Clerk Stacey Hartwell was reappointed and administered the oath of office.

Former Mayor Peter March was recognized with a plaque for his years of service to the village. March served on the Planning and Zoning Commission for 20 years, as a trustee for five years, and mayor for five years.

March had many accomplishments during his tenure as Mayor; his biggest achievement being the downtown streetscape.

Outgoing trustee Shelly Marevka also was recognized with a plaque for her years of service to the village. Marevka served eight years as trustee and served important roles on the police committee and the Downtown Ad Hoc Committee.

Vieaux presided over two action items and adjourned the meeting with a gavel to applause. The meeting was followed by a cake reception with family and friends.

In a statement to The Vedette, Vieaux said, “Being sworn in as Peotone’s Village President was an honor, and I’m ready to get to work. I’m fortunate to have a knowledgeable staff and engaged trustees, who care about the direction of this village. I’m committed to listening, learning, and working together to make decisions that move Peotone forward. My goal is steady, meaningful progress that benefits everyone who calls Peotone home.”
