Justice police are investigating two thefts from unlocked vehicles at Resurrection Cemetery on Mother’s Day, Deputy Chief Fred Schuerg said May 16.
The first theft was of a 68-year-old woman’s purse from her vehicle when it was parked in the cemetery, 7101 S. Archer, between 4 and 4:30 p.m., police said.
The woman’s purse contained house keys, gift cards and $80. Her husband’s cell phone was also stolen, police said.
The man used his wife’s phone to call his phone. Another man answered and said he had found it at a gas station.
The owner retrieved his phone from the other man, who was driving a “beater SUV” according to the police report, at 5 p.m. May 11 at 79th Street and 88th Avenue, police said.
The other theft happened at 4:30 p.m. on Mother’s Day, also at the cemetery, police said.
In that theft, a woman’s purse, a man’s phone and a woman’s wallet were stolen from an unlocked vehicle, police said.
The phone was found near the cemetery exit, police said. The other items were not recovered.
