At their meeting on Tuesday, February 11, Kankakee County Board members accepted the announcement of the retirement of Regional Superintendent of Kankakee and Iroquois County Schools Frank Petkunas.
In a letter to the board announcing his departure, Petkunas stated: “It’s been my honor to serve as regional superintendent since 2022. I have been fortunate to work with talented staff during this time, who served students, family, and districts of our region well.”
The board then voted to appoint Patricia High to the post, which will be vacated by Petkunas effective February 28. High is the current assistant regional superintendent, a position she has held since August 2022.
