A 63-year-old man accused of stealing from an Orland Park store was arrested after allegedly hitting a police officer in the head with a duffel bag while trying to escape, authorities said.

Tommy Morgan III faces a felony count of aggravated battery to a peace officer and four additional charges stemming from the April 21 incident at Going, Going, Gone, 15852 LaGrange Road.

Police responded to a theft in progress and encountered Morgan, who allegedly struck an officer with a duffel bag and fled the store. The officer chased after him and suffered a minor injury during the pursuit, officials said.

Officers recovered a pair of stolen shoes inside the bag, according to the police report.

Morgan was banned from the store for life. He appeared in court April 22 at the Bridgeview courthouse and was released pending a future court date.
