David Liska was sworn in as Forest View’s new mayor during a packed Board of Trustees meeting on April 22.
Liska defeated Trustee Maria Ramirez in the April 1 election. Forest View Village Clerk Laura McGuffey administered the oath of office.
Longtime Trustee Richard Hubacek, Trustee Midalia Nevarez and newcomer Jim Nitka also were sworn in that evening.
Mayor Nancy Miller, who adjourned the meeting after the certified vote count was read, thanked residents for their support during her term.
Miller said she fulfilled her campaign promises — including street paving, creating a village website and investing in public works — and was proud to have accomplished even more. She outlined her goals during a State of the Village address in March.
After the swearing-in, the meeting reconvened with Liska in the mayor’s chair. Miller presented him with a ceremonial gavel.
Cook County Commissioner Frank Aguilar attended the ceremony, thanking Miller for her service and congratulating Liska and the new board members.
Following the meeting, residents gathered upstairs at the Art Treckler Community Room to celebrate with refreshments, bid farewell to Miller and welcome Liska and the trustees.
