The cart path that winds through Flagg Creek Golf Course will have a new and improved look this summer.

The Countryside City Council at its April 23 meeting unanimously approved paying $10,768 to McGill Construction, based in Frankfort, for the project.

McGill will do patching and sealcoating on the cart path.

That’s just one of the changes coming to Flagg Creek this year.

At a meeting last month, the city council approved increasing some fees at the golf course.

You will find it at the driving range.

A large bucket of balls was $15 and is now $17. A medium bucket was $9 and is now $11.

“The small is only 30 balls, so that stays at seven bucks,” Assistant City Administrator Dave Schutter said.

The price increase came after increased use of the driving range.

The range at Fresh Meadows at 22nd Street and Wolf in Hillside is no longer open. With it went 120 spots for golfers to hit from, Schutter said.

As a result, “we’ve seen more people at the driving range,” he said.

Using supply and demand, it made sense to slightly increase the fees.

Cart rentals went up, too. You can thank the state.

“On Jan. 1, a sales tax on rental equipment charged by the state went up. The city is simply passing on that extra cost,” Schutter said.

After taxes, the cart rental is now an even $12.

Residents parking on Jovic

In other business, the council on April 23 unanimously approved creating a residents-only parking zone on Jovic Court south of 61st Street.

That’s on the east side of City Park, which has a baseball field.

Quite often parents of baseball players park on Jovic Court, creating parking problems for residents, Mayor Sean McDermott said after the meeting.

“A large number of people were parking on Jovic. We heard about it during the campaign,” McDermott said.

The mayor said parking is available along 61st Street east of City Park and in the parking lot behind left field.

Pistone steps down

After 13 years with the board on the Police and Fire Commision, Mary Lou Pistone stepped down from her role.
