After 32 years on the city council, Alderman A.J. Pasek was honored last week as Palos Hills officials closed their council meeting with a standing ovation.
During the city’s meeting on April 17, the council voted on traffic safety, a utility easement, and spring updates across city departments.
An ordinance was approved to install stop signs for east- and westbound traffic on 100th Place at 82nd Court. The change updates Section 10.08.162 of the city’s municipal code.
Alderman Michael Lebarre said residents have been worried about speeding near new homes at 97th Avenue and 102nd Place. The council asked the city attorney to draft an ordinance for three stop signs there.
Alderman A.J. Pasek also followed up with Police Chief Jeff Cucio about traffic enforcement on 105th Street. Cucio said enforcement efforts are ongoing and more drivers are coming to a full stop.
The city received a $455 check from LexisNexis Risk Solutions, Alderman Marty Kleefisch reported.
Volunteer Park is expected to reopen next week, Alderman Michael Price said. He encouraged residents to check the Community Center’s website or Facebook page for updates.
Golf Co-Chairman Pasek reported several course improvements, including new tee markers, drainage fixes, landscaping on holes three and seven, pump station maintenance, and fresh sand trap seeding.
The council approved a $62,020 warrant presented by Lebarre. He also reminded members that departmental budget hearings begin Thursday, April 24, at 4:30 p.m.
In Public Works, Alderman Mark Brachman introduced Resolution 691, which authorizes a 10-foot perpetual public utility easement near 83rd Court and 102nd Place. The resolution passed without opposition.
During closing remarks, Alderman Donna O’Connell thanked Hills Chamber members for helping with the city’s recent senior fair.
“It turned out successful — very good — and they’d like to do it again next year,” she said.
The meeting ended with a tribute to Pasek, who is retiring after more than three decades on the city council.
“Thank you, and enjoy your retirement,” Mayor Gerald Bennett said.
The next City Council meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 2, when newly elected officials will be sworn in.
