An ordinance annexing the nearly 71 acres of the Beverly Country Club was approved Monday by the Village of Evergreen Park.
The country club at 8700 S. Western Ave. is not within the corporate limits of any municipality.
The Beverly Country Club was previously in unincorporated Cook County.
The ordinance was approved during the Evergreen Park Village Board meeting Monday night by a 6-0 margin. Owners of the country club preferred to work with Evergreen Park instead of Cook County, according to board members.
Country club ownership is currently renovating the clubhouse among other improvements being made. They want to be associated with the village, according to the ordinance.
The arrangement benefits the village, which will provide an increase in property taxes and sales tax for Evergreen Park. Owners of the country club have their own security force.
However, some residents questioned the arrangement and wondered why the Beverly Country Club ownership would prefer to work with the village instead of Cook County? Trustee Norm Anderson suggested that it will be easier for the country club to have a better working relationship with Evergreen Park instead of Cook County because permits take longer to be approved by the county.
The resident said that he has always received permits quickly from Cook County. Several trustees said overall that is not the case.
Mayor Kelly Burke appreciated the input from the resident but had another viewpoint on the subject.
“I take it as a compliment to our professionalism that they want to work with the village and that they are seeking us out,” Burke said.
Beverly Country Club will continue to receive water from Chicago.
Owners of the country club assured the village that they will continue to serve exclusively as a country club. A Class A liquor license was also approved by the village for the country club.
Another ordinance was approved at the request of the police department to limit noise in the village. With the passage of the ordinance, noise from residences or businesses will be limited to 70 decibels, and lowered to 60 decibels after 10 p.m.
A tax was improved through another ordinance for all individuals engaged in the business of selling groceries in Evergreen Park at the rate of 1% of the gross receipts from the sales.
An ordinance was also approved for establishing provisions for trees and urban forestry by enacting tree care for the village.
Several residents complained that more needs to be done by motorists who race up and down residential streets and blow stop signs. A couple of residents complained about vehicles racing up and down 91st and California.
Police Chief Michael Saunders said they will concentrate on this particular area and added that residents should call 911 when they see this occur in the future.
An application for a business certificate was granted to JD Sports, 9536 S. Western Ave., a retail sales store that sells athletic footwear, apparel and accessories. They will be replacing the since closed David’s Bridal.
Caster and & Wheel Distribution, 9340 S. Kedzie Ave., was approved by the board. The business will sell casters and wheels.
The Unspoken Couture Boutique, 9301 S. Kedzie Ave., was approved and is moving next door. Owners said that the much larger corner location is perfect for their women’s clothing boutique.
