McCook police are investigating a string of burglaries involving semi-trailer trucks parked along Joliet Road and West 47th Street, where thieves have been stealing critical engine modules.
The thefts began March 4, when nine trucks parked in the 5300 block of Joliet Road were broken into overnight. In each case, a window was smashed to unlock the hood, and the CPC module — short for Computer Powertrain Control — was taken, police said.
The devices manage key functions in diesel engines, including throttle control, speed limiting, and exhaust systems.
A similar theft occurred March 7 in the 7700 block of West 47th Street, and another was reported March 25 in the 7800 block of West 47th Street, police said.
No arrests have been made, and police did not release suspect descriptions. The investigation is ongoing.
