Kankakee residents and businesses will be paying more on their sewer bills beginning next month.

Rate increases were approved by the city council at its Monday, April 7, meeting. Residents and small businesses will see their flow charge per 1,000 gallons rise from the current $13.99 to $14.27. Larger industrial users will see their flow charge rise from the current $14.68 to $14.97.

The rate of flow is determined by water usage during the winter months of December, January, February, and March. In addition, the city’s fixed user charge will go up from the current $69.26 to $70.64 also effective May 1.

The cost for garbage collection in Kankakee also will go up on May 1.  Residents currently pay $41.36 and that will rise to $43.02 per month.

The new sewer and garbage disposal rates will stay the same in 2026.
