The first phase of a project to replace lead pipes in specific homes in Evergreen Park has been approved.
The Evergreen Park Village Board approved the project 5-0 during Monday night’s meeting.
Five Star Energy Services, based out of Waukesha, Wis., will replace lead with copper pipes for 300 homes beginning in July.
The company representative said that 300 residents had signed up for the project.
One resident asked why only 300 homes were approved?
“The first phase is for 300 homes this year,” Mayor Kelly Burke pointed out. “Phase two will be for another 300 homes.”
While trustees approved the project, they did have some questions. Trustee Mark Phelan wondered if local input would be considered by the company from either Evergreen Park or neighboring municipalities?
A company representative said that the village will be informed about the project and would be willing to consider local input. While the bid has been accepted, additional meetings will take place before the project begins, Burke said.
Trustee James McQuillan asked how long each day would the project take? The company representative replied that it would take a half day for each home. However, he added that it would most likely take about three hours.
Provisions on narcotics
The board voted 5-0 to approve provisions regarding prohibited drugs since the state has been unable to approve regulations regarding the issue.
The board opposes the sale of any cannabis-infused product. The only exceptions would be any USDA product for sale for therapeutic purposes, or any item sold by a dispensing organization licensed to operate.
An ordinance was amended to allow for MFT funds of $5 million to be used for a construction project in the northwest section of the village.
A resolution was approved for an intergovernmental agreement for participation in the Illinois Public Works Mutual Aid Network. The system is designed to organize all levels of mutual aid from day-to-day non-emergency sharing of resources to major incidents and disasters requiring deployment of resources.
A request by Police Chief Michael Saunders was approved to declare a vacancy in the department due to retirement of an officer. The board also approved that one individual from the probationary or the lateral patrol officer eligibility list be hired.
Another resolution was approved for the annual Independence Day Parade to be held Friday, June 27. The parade will require the temporary closure of all lanes along 95th Street from Pulaski Road to California Avenue.
A business certificate was approved for OSF CompleteCare 55+, 9858 S. Western Ave. The healthcare and primary care services center is scheduled to open in June.
A license was also approved for Airobics Pulmonary Rehab, 10224 S. Kedzie Ave. Centers are also located in Harvey and Palos Heights.
