Final tallies of ballots by the Kankakee County Clerk’s Office show Annette LaMore will be the new mayor in Manteno. She received 55 percent of the vote defeating a sitting village board member for the post. Joel Gesky had bid to take the seat being vacated by incumbent Tim Nugent, but fallout from opposition to a planned Chinese-owned EV battery manufacturing plant appears to have been a factor in election results.

In the race to fill three seats on the Manteno Village Board, the winners were Peggy Vaughn, Cameron Boudreau, and Michael Barry. Boudreau was the only incumbent on the board to win another four-year term in office.

Other election results from April 1 show Jeff Keast winning the race for mayor of Bourbonnais over challenger Dave Zinanni. In addition, all three incumbent village board members, Bruce Greenlee, Rick Fischer, and Angie Serafini won election to four-year terms. Incumbent Bourbonnais Village Clerk Brian Simeur also won re-election to that post.

Kankakee Mayor Chris Curtis was elected to a second term, garnering 68 percent of the ballots cast in the April 1 Consolidated Election, defeating challenger Genevra Walters.

In Momence, Charles Steele squeaked past Christy Ritter to win the race for mayor.
