Ray Buick marked the end of an era this week when the Southwest Side dealership ended its 72-year relationship with the General Motors brand.

The dealership at 5011 W. 62nd St. was one of only eight stand-alone Buick dealerships left in the United States before it stopped selling the vehicles. All other Buick stores also sell other GM products including GMC trucks or Chevrolets or Cadillacs.

The dealership will stay open as a used car store and has changed its name to Ray Automotive.

Ray Gieselmann, president Ray Buick Inc., did not return messages, but in a letter to customers, Ray Automotive said, “Our sales team will remain available to assist with your purchase of pre-owned vehicles, ensuring that you continue to have a reliable resource for your automotive needs.”

The dealership’s service center has also closed, but in the same letter, said, “Although our Service department will close, we are dedicated to helping you find alternative options for your service and maintenance needs. Our team will be happy to provide recommendations for trusted service providers in the area.”

In closing, the letter said, “Thank you once again for choosing Ray Buick over the years. We deeply value your trust and support, and we look forward to continuing to serve you in this new chapter. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out.”
