Results from the February 25 mayoral primary election indicate there will be a new mayor in Bourbonnais later this year.
Jeff Keast, who mounted a challenge to Schore’s reign in power, was the winner capturing 60 percent of the ballots cast.
Turnout was abysmal for the election. The Kankakee County Clerk’s Office reported that only 15 percent of voters registered in the Bourbonnais precincts cast a ballot. The county lists 11,507 registered voters in the 11 Bourbonnais precincts.
Keast, who currently serves as a village board trustee, now will advance to the April 1 General Consolidated Election, where he will be challenged by People’s Choice Party Candidate Dave Zinanni for the mayoral post in Bourbonnais. Zinanni is currently a board member of the Bourbonnais Township Park District.
Schore will depart the mayor’s position after serving in that role for the past 16 years.
