After months of controversy and failure by the Will County Board to vote on two previous occasions on a proposed solar project near Custer and Reed Townships, the matter died for now, with barely a whimper. The developer has withdrawn the application for a special use permit, but the developer could come back at a later date with a revised request. At the Thursday, February 20, meeting of the board, the question was unceremoniously and without comment removed from the agenda.

In other business, a resolution that would eliminate the need to read all written public comment into the record on any given matter, sparked contentious debate and minor revisions to resolution wording before being passed. The public was allowed, because of the COVID pandemic, to submit comment in writing. Prior to 2020, comment had to be made to the board in person. In a compromise, the board voted to allow written comment but did agree the reading of those submissions consumed too much time. Board members also complained about too many “copy and paste” style emails.
