Oak Lawn village officials honored Richards High School student Maggie Ritter for achieving Eagle Scout status at their Feb. 10 village board meeting.

Mayor Terry Vorderer presented a plaque to the high honors student, who was honored for “outstanding achievement.”

“Congratulations to an outstanding Scout and student,” Vorderer said.

Vorderer then posed for photos withMaggie and her parents, Glen, who is a Scoutmaster, and Ann Ritter.

State of Village

Trustee Ralph Soch (6th) mentioned that the State of the Village address that also took place on Feb. 10 provided a positive update.

He was especially proud of the efforts of the fire and police departments who he said have served the community admirably.

“The village is doing well,” Soch said. “And I want to thank (Division) Chief (James) Cummings of the police department and Chief (Mike) McMillin for all the hard work and what they said about the departments. We now have 10 Chicago police officers who have transferred to Oak Lawn. That says something about what we are doing here.”

Vorderer added that the village is on the right track and was impressed with the speakers at the event that was held at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Lawn.

“We had a sellout crowd and I think everything is going very well,” the mayor said. “It’s a very good time to live in Oak Lawn.”
