Although all 700 tickets have been sold for the 13th Soup and Bread fundraiser presented by BEDS Plus at the Holiday Inn Countryside on Sunday, you can still help out.
BEDS Plus helps vulnerable clients in the southwest suburbs with shelter, housing and supportive services.
You can make donations through a silent auction that is open until 6:15 p.m. Sunday at the organization’s website, https://soup-and-bread.beds-plus.org.
“We are absolutely at the max (for tickets sold),” said Erin Molek, development manager for BEDS Plus. “Instead of doing tickets at the door, we had pre-sale tickets.”
Each ticket to the event cost $30, which bodes well for the charitable organization. The price is up from last year when tickets were $25 each. Children 8 and under still dine for free.
“You know, we have an incredible silent auction. Even if they can’t attend the event, they can go to the silent auction and bid on items even if they’re not (in attendance). That would really help us,” Molek said.
When you go to the site, look for the silent auction and you’ll find quite a few things to choose from.
“We have a Disney trip, a trip to Colorado, a Coach purse, some fun sports stuff and events, a lot of fun experiences and a diamond necklace. We have some really incredible things to bid on,” Molek said Monday.
Some of the other items up for the silent auction are: St. Augustine getaway, Salt Shed VIP experience, a photo autographed by Hockey Hall of Famer Bobby Orr, White Sox tickets, Marriott Theatre experience and tickets to Classic Cinema and a dinner.
Last year, there were only four big prizes offered at the event for $25 per chance. Organizers expect to raise plenty of money through the silent auction.
Last year, a record amount of money was raised, about $115,000, she said. This year, the goal is to top that, she said.
There will be live music on two stages to enjoy during the event.
August James plans from 3:15 to 5 p.m. followed by the Vaughan Building from 5:15 to 7 p.m. on the main stage. The terrace stage has Crows of Furey from 3:15 to 5 p.m. and open mic performers from The Stadium Club from 5:15 to 7 p.m.
And, of course, there will be plenty of soup. Twenty-two restaurants and taverns are offering a wide range of soups, something for everyone, and a few taste surprises as well.
Molek is “very excited” to sample several “new and different soups” offered this year “and of course a lot of the old standards.”
Cauliflower soup is from fourteensixteen. Antonino Ristorante has that Italian classic. Cuban Black Bean will be found at the Steak + Vine booth. Roasted pepper & Potato is courtesy The Stadium Club. And Prasino will be dishing out helpings of mushroom soup.
