Steven Perrin is looking forward to making a drive down to Indianapolis.

That’s where village of McCook employee will pick up a 2024 Ford F750 dump truck.

Indianapolis is roughly  the halfway point between McCook and the dealer, Ricart Properties, which is based in Groveport, Ohio, he said.

The dump truck is costing the village $145,000 and is expected to help in many ways, Perrin said.

The dump truck will be used for salting and plowing village streets in the winter, and carrying dirt and stone when needed for various projects, he said after the Jan. 6 village board meeting.

“We have two (dump trucks now) but they need to be replaced. One’s a 2000. The other is a 2002. They’re getting kind of old. They don’t have a lot of miles, just a lot of use. They get beat up with the salt,” Perrin said.

The village board unanimously approved the purchase.

“Thank you for the new dump truck,” Perrin told the board.

In other business, the board unanimously approved Perrin’s request that a 2005 Ford Pick-up truck be disposed of.

The 20-year-old pickup truck is inoperable, Perrin said after the meeting.

“You got your money’s worth out of that one,” Mayor Terrance Carr said.

Perrin, who turns 56 on Jan. 17, has worked more than 35 years for the village’s public works department. He’s been the director the past 15 years.

The board usually meets on the first and third Monday each month, but the next meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on  Tuesday, Jan. 21.

That’s because the village hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20 for Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Carr said.
